The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

Everton stay 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

After a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.
