PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.
PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.
The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.
Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.
Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
